Biografía (Biography)

Becca is a spunky Wisconsinite at heart, though she has spent over a decade living in the amazing West! Her tenure west of the Mississippi started at Stanford University where she received her B.A. in Latin American History and M.S. in Earth Systems. In college, Becca also participated in a NOLS semester in Patagonia and studied in Bolivia with the School for International Training.

Outside of academics, Becca has spent many years leading wilderness expeditions (primarily for Camp Manito-wish YMCA and HMI) and adventures abroad (for Where There Be Dragons). Becca's "formal" (but far from traditional!) classroom teaching career began at REALMS Middle School  in Bend, Oregon as a program specialist, humanities, and Spanish teacher. Most recently, Becca lived in Leadville, Colorado teaching Spanish and leading wilderness trips for the High Mountain Institute. There she started an exchange program between her students and a local Hispanic women's group. The real-world, authentic connections nurtured by that program underpin Becca's teaching philosophy and make her very excited to be joining Animas High School, implementing project-based learning in her Spanish classroom.
